Warren G Harding Life

His father was a teacher at a rural school in Ohio, and his mother was a midwife who later received her medical license. It is possible that one of Harding's great-grandmothers may have been an African American. This family moved to Caledonia, Ohio, where his father had a weekly newspaper, and Harding learned about the journalism business.

Warren G Harding Education

He continued his studies at Ohio Central College. When he graduated, he moved to Marion, Ohio and he and two of his friends purchased the Marion Daily Star. He used the newspaper to promote the Republican Party.

The paper became one of the most popular newspapers in his county, but he was becoming exhausted with nervous fatigue as a result. In order to get his strength back, he spent a few weeks at Battle Creek Sanitarium.

Warren G Harding Marriage

Harding married Florence Kling DeWolfe, who was the daughter of his enemy, Amos Hall Kling. Important to know that she was five years older than him and had a (Marshall Eugene DeWolfe) son. She had pursued him and he reluctantly proposed to her. Her father was livid, and as a result, forbade Florence's mother to go to the wedding, and he never spoke to his daughter or his new son-in-law for eight years.

Especially, the personalities of Warren and Florence were said to complement one another, as she was no-nonsense, and he was affable.  Many say that she helped make the newspaper into a profitable success.

President Warren G Harding

While running his newspaper he also served in the Ohio Senate from 1899 until 1903 and was also the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio from 1903 until 1905. He was a U.S. Senator from 1915 until 1921. He won the 1920 election with the largest presidential popular vote landslide in history with approximately 60% to 34%.

As president, he signed peace treaties building on the Treaty of Versailles and made way for the world Naval disarmament at the Washington Naval Conference that was in 1921 until 1922. He also was president during peace treaties signed with Austria, Hungary, and Germany that ended World War I for the United States. He established the Veterans' Bureau.

There is much mystery surrounding his death, especially after his wife refused permission for an autopsy. Because Warren Harding died on August 2, 1923, while in conversation with his wife. It is believed, however, that his cause of death was congestive heart failure.
