The fortieth president of the United States of America Ronald Reagan Facts. Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004) was the 40th President of the United States, serving from 1981 to 1989.
Prior to his presidency, he was a Hollywood actor and union leader, and later served as Governor of California from 1967 to 1975.
President Ronald Reagan Facts
Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois and grew up in Dixon, Illinois. He graduated from Eureka College in 1932 and began his career as a radio sports announcer. He moved to Hollywood in 1937 and began his acting career, appearing in numerous films throughout the 1940s and 1950s.
In the 1960s, Reagan became more involved in politics, speaking out against communism and supporting conservative causes. He was elected Governor of California in 1966 and re-elected in 1970.
In 1980, Reagan ran for President of the United States, defeating incumbent Jimmy Carter. He was re-elected in 1984, defeating Walter Mondale.
During his presidency, Reagan implemented conservative policies, including tax cuts, deregulation, and increased defense spending. He also pursued a policy of "peace through strength," advocating for a strong military to deter Soviet aggression.
Reagan survived an assassination attempt in 1981, and in 1994, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He died in 2004 at the age of 93.
